Starting June 6, 2025, Zoom’s AI Companion tool will be activated for users of the University of Utah’s main campus account. AI Companion is a generative AI digital assistant that, if activated by a Zoom meeting host, automatically creates meeting summaries and answers questions about meeting content.
A release date has not been selected for AI Companion in the University of Utah Health’s Zoom subaccount (utah-health.zoom.us). U of U Health Zoom users will be notified when it is available for use.
Activate AI Companion in a Meeting
To activate AI Companion in a meeting, press the "AI Companion" button located in the button ribbon at the bottom of your meeting window. The AI Companion diamond icon will flash at the top of the meeting window whenever the tool is active.
Turn Off AI Companion in a Meeting
To turn off AI Companion in a meeting, the host can click the diamond icon in the top of the meeting window and click "Stop AI Companion features".

View Your Meeting Summary
Meeting summaries will automatically be generated for any meeting and timeframe that has AI Companion activated. Summaries will automatically be emailed to the host by default and can also be accessed in the "Summaries" page in the host's account in the web portal.

The AI Companion meeting summary, meeting questions and Smart recording functions will be available to turn on in meetings by default. Other AI Companion functions, such as Team Chat - Thread summary, will need to be enabled in the host's settings in the Zoom web portal at utah.zoom.us.
