On Monday, December 15, 2025, UIT’s Digital Learning Technologies (DLT) will change the minimum version requirement for University of Utah Zoom accounts to version 6.5.11.
After the change, users with Zoom versions older than 6.5.11 will be prompted to update their clients. To upgrade the app, select the “Update” button in the prompt window.
If you manage lab or staff computers and devices, please make sure that you have pushed out the Zoom update and notified your users about the change.

New Zoom Feature Releases
Import Course Groups - While instructors can create breakout rooms when scheduling meetings, Canvas instructors can also import their course groups as breakout rooms. This allows for quick creation and automated management and assignment of students within those breakout rooms.
AI Companion - AI Companion is a generative AI digital assistant that automatically creates meeting summaries, answers questions about meeting content and more.
Broadcast Screen Share & Mic Audio to Breakout Rooms - Meeting hosts can share information to participants in breakout rooms from the main session. This includes screen sharing, chat messages and mic audio.
Save Custom Gallery View Order -Meeting hosts can save the customized gallery view order for subsequent meetings.
Automatic Updates for Zoom Client - Users can now set their Zoom client to update automatically when new updates are available.
Slide Control - During a presentation, the person who is sharing can allow others to control the PowerPoint or Keynote slide presentation.
Transfer Meetings Between Devices - Users can transfer a meeting to another device without leaving the meeting.
Immersive View - Places meeting participants within a virtual background to recreate the feel of a classroom or conference room.
Focus Mode - Allows hosts/co-hosts to view all participants' camera/share screens while participants can only see their own.
Whiteboards - Zoom Whiteboards provide an online whiteboard space for collaboration and capturing ideas, concepts and processes. Users can create and share Zoom Whiteboards within Zoom meetings or outside of them.
